Provisions Made to the Uniform Act in the State of Indiana

The state of Indiana has integrated the federal Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act (URA) into its legal framework, ensuring that individuals and entities displaced by public projects receive appropriate assistance. Key provisions are outlined in the Indiana Code, particularly in Title 32 and Title 8.​

  • IC 32-24-4.5-6: Defines “relocation costs” as expenses payable in accordance with the federal URA (42 U.S.C. 4601 through 42 U.S.C. 4655). ​
  • IC 8-23-17-30: Authorizes agencies acquiring real property under federally assisted programs to provide relocation assistance services and payments as required or authorized under the URA. ​
  • IC 8-23-17-24: Mandates that the governor or agency head consult with federal agencies administering relocation assistance programs under the URA to promote uniform and effective administration of relocation assistance and land acquisition. ​
